Family Group Conferencing

Family group conferencing is a formal meeting between family members, their extended support networks, agencies and other professionals to create a plan to support the wellbeing of a child or young person.

Family group conferencing offers a positive way to bring family members together, with a neutral facilitator, to create a plan for their child or young person.

Big Brown House accredited facilitators work closely with families, agencies and professionals to explore a wide range of solutions to meet concerns in relation to children and young people.

A Family Group Conference can be used to help families make decisions relating to issues such as;

  • Child protection and welfare

  • Youth offending

  • Education

  • Domestic and family violence

  • Placement preservation

  • Adoption

  • Custody and visitation agreements

  • Health issues

  • Any situation where family may be able to resolve their own issues

Respite or Short Term Care - Complex Needs

At Big Brown House, we can provide a variety of flexible respite options for children and young people with complex needs, to assist parents and carers and to maintain family connections.

Big Brown House is registered with the Office of the Children Guardian's to provide care to a child or young person away from their usual home. This can be funded under a child or young person's NDIS package.

Respite care is for short, usually pre-planned periods of time. Respite carers might care for a child one weekend a month or for a few weeks during school holidays, providing the child and family, time to rest and recharge.

Respite carers provide a ‘normal everyday life’, where the child or young person can attend school, participate in sport, hobbies, friendship groups and appointments in a safe and caring environment.
