About Us

Big Brown House was established in 2011 as a response to assist the Family Court and community with supervised contact services in Newcastle, NSW.  Since then we have expanded our services to the Hunter, Central Coast, Sydney, Mid North Coast and Western areas of NSW.

After working with families within the community, the Family Court and a number of Non Government Organisations we saw a need for additional support services, Big Brown House is now offering a number of safe, reliable and supportive services for the community.

Our vision is to support the community through;

  • Ensuring children have a safe and reliable way to enjoy spending time with parents and loved ones through Supervised Contact, Transport, Changeover.  We believe that ongoing contact with both parents and/or other important family members is a vital part of a child’s overall well being and development.
  • Helping keep the family unit together though early intervention models including Family Group Conferencing (FGC) using trained and accredited facilitators to assist with achieving a positive outcome for everyone involved.
  • Providing the opportunity for children and young people to learn valuable life skills and independence through our Mentors & Mates (Mentoring) where they are able to spend time with a mature and caring person that can encourage them in their individual interests and hobbies in a safe environment.
  • In Home Support and Emergency Respite services can be provided in our safe and comfortable homes to assist carers and families with a much needed break from caring. Our trained and experienced staff will work with a trauma informed therapeutic model of care to ensure each child or young person spending time with us is working towards a positive outcome.

The team at Big Brown House is made up of a group of people with varying backgrounds in community development, child protection, family focus and mental health professions, all members of the community, all with a common goal; to provide families, children and young people with the opportunity to access services to support, assist and enhance their quality of life.
